Know Your Deadlines

FAFSA deadlines can be different for each college, so make sure you know your school’s specific deadline. In Louisiana, the deadline for the 2025-2026 school year is July 1, 2025. The federal deadline is June 30, 2025. However, it’s a good idea to complete your FAFSA as early as possible to avoid missing out on financial aid.

Get ready ahead of time. You will need these forms: your parent or guardian’s Social Security numbers , tax returns, records of child support received, current balances of cash, savings, and checking accounts, and the value of investments, businesses, and farms.

Create Your FAFSA Account

Anyone who needs to provide information on the FAFSA form (like you or your parents) must create a StudentAid.gov account. It is recommended that you and your parents make these accounts before starting your FAFSA.

Complete The Form

Visit https://studentaid.gov/apply-for-aid/fafsa/filling-out for step by step instructions on filling out the FAFSA form. Follow these instructions carefully.

Review all Forms

Make sure to check all the information on your FAFSA form before you send it. If there are mistakes, it could slow down your financial aid.

Monitor Your Application

Log in to FAFSA.gov to check for updates and give any extra information they ask for. When your financial aid package is ready, look it over and choose which help you want to accept.
