Healthy Visits, Happy Readers

Healthy Families, Strong Readers: Partnering with Healthcare to Grow Literacy in Louisiana

We’re proud to partner with healthcare providers to bring Book Vending Machines into clinical settings, offering children a free book following their medical visit.

For many children, medical visits can be stressful. Access to a book provides comfort, distraction, and a sense of normalcy—while also supporting learning beyond the moment of care. By placing these machines in high-traffic, accessible healthcare spaces, moments of medical stress are transformed into positive experiences that encourage reading and imagination long after the visit ends. This initiative promotes literacy and helps address “book deserts” by placing books directly into the hands of families when they are needed most.

This effort reflects a growing collaboration between healthcare and community organizations to support families and strengthen outcomes through accessible literacy.
